'The essential difference between an adult and a child is one of time and experience, but beyond that there is no difference.'
Babies must be trained to a 'routine', the child must be 'disciplined', it must undertake many years of compulsory education. Protest from the child is met with the overriding power of the adult. Children are a largely silent group with adults seeking to 'mould' them at every stage of their development and their treatment is both an illustration and a symptom of our society's problems.
