International anarchist union the IWA has vowed to throw funds behind a campaign to clear the names of six Serbian members who are facing decades in prison on charges of international terrorism.
The decision came just days after an open letter from Serbian intellectuals was published denouncing the court case as a politically motivated attempt to stifle dissent from the left.
The IWA pledge came at the association’s 24th annual congress in Brazil in December, which itself had been put on hold following the jailing of IWA general secretary Ratibor Trivunac and his fellow ASI-MUR comrades Tadej Kurepa, Ivan Vulovi´c, Sanja Dojki´c, Nikola Mitrovic and Ivan Savic in September.
The arrests were allegedly related to a direct action which took place on 25th August where minor damage was caused to the Greek embassy in Belgrade.
The six could face prison terms of up to 15 years.
